Serena Holm is living and working in Gothenburg and I have MISSED her!
Sad for me, because when I look at her jewellery’s and objects, I really, really like them… It’s reminding me a lot of some South African jewellery’s artists that I have meet in the Cape Town area… Karen Jay.

collected/ dried avocado peel ...

This is a starting to use collected/ dried avocado peel into jewellery…
Avocado peel, bookmarks, glass beads, lacquer, silver…

I started this collecting in 2005 and I have collected/dried avocado peel since then.
These “objects” I have done 2005, but I still working on this idea, an idea that I like very much, because it’s a nice hard organic material.

I like the idea of be in the “whole big world”, with a collective sub consciousness.
I think it’s interesting that I am working with my things I Gothenburg, Sweden and in the same time (more or less) some one working in Santiago, Chile with same materials and also with jewelleries… Like it!!!
I think that this proof that we aren’t so unique at all.

I just had done this jewellery piece with this material, the cable ties… But I like the material, the shape… First time that I saw this material in an object, was in a really nice, funny and fantastic lamp from London.

I’m also charmed over the titles. I like the humour, the way of connection a text to an object and what’s happened… the mixed between word and object.

Célio Braga does not make jewellery. He observes people and their interaction and gives a reaction through the objects he creates. Those pieces can sometimes be worn as a brooch or a necklace. Truly applied art: the object that poses questions and hands you suggestions can accompany you all day. As a recollection, a confrontation or an act of wilfulness.

I like these jewelleries because they have been done of “electronic” things… The idea to use “what ever” is always my own melody, and we are lots of jewellery artist out there using “cheap” materials… Inspired me a lot!

Thinking that this is a “new” way of doing jewelleries… Of course I know that people always used natural materials, found objects and so on, but in the jewellery field right now, it’s a big thing, this to use what ever stuff to do jewelleries.

I didn’t know about this jewellery artist; Fabrizio Trindenti before a saw the new newsletter from Klimt02, Klimt02 is a really good site for jewellery artists!

Love it!

There you always can see what’s going on in the jewellery world, what’s exhibition who is coming up and so on…

Hittade denna bild i ett modemagasin (tyvärr kommer jag inte ihåg vilken).

Jag sparade bilden för att jag tycker att den väl illustrerar vad ett smycke kan vara, att gränsen för materialval enbart ligger hos konstnärer... Betraktaren kan tycka vad den vill om "märkliga" materialval... Men det mesta går att använda sig av... Nu är jag inte helt säker på att denna bild i sitt ursprung ska gestalta ett halssmycke... Men för mig som betraktare och just smyckekonstnär, så faller det sig naturligt att läsa in halssmycke i form av råttor.

Vilma Velasques...

Vilma Velasques är en kollega till mig som hittat sitt egna koncept för att göra och föra ut smycken i världen. Jag beundrar hennes arbete otroligt mycket, hennes engagemang i Colombia etc.

Det råder delad mening om i vilket "läger" Vilma befinner sig, är hon konsthantverkare när hon har produktion utlagd på annat håll? Är hon designer? Vad är hon???

För mig spelar det inte så stor roll om hon sitter och filar på vart enda smycke själv eller om hon har folk som jobbar för sig, ibland när jag hör resonemanget angående Vilmas vara el. inte vara, så kan jag bli fundersam över andras "småsinthet", är det för att det ser ut som om hon tjänar pengar som diskussionen kommer upp??? Som konsthantverkare ska det inte vara lätt och man ska framförallt inte "gödsla" med sina saker/alster överallt...

(Är det en rådande mening, eller en fundering från min sida som inte har någon grund alls?)

Vilma jobbar hårt för att föra ut sina smycken, hon har sina smycken på olika ställen runt om i Sverige och kommer så småningom att öppna något eget på Gotland i Visby...

Texten nedan är hämtad från hennes hemsida, och handlar om projektet i Colombia.

Vilma Velasquez AB är ett företag som tror på framtiden, och för att tro på framtiden måste man verka för förändring. Vårt sätt att förändra, kanske till och med förbättra vår omvärld, är det projekt som vi just nu driver i Colombia. Det startade 2006 då jag Vilma Velasquez åkte till Colombia med tanken att förlägga en del av produktionen där. Genom flera lyckliga sammanträffanden mötte jag då familjen Gerrero och började samarbeta med dem.Familjen består av Rocio och Nuri, två kvinnor som lever i ett par förhållande och Rocios två yngsta döttrar Mariluz och Valentina. Rocio har även tre äldre döttrar som har flyttat hemifrån och startat egna familjer. Rocio, kvinnan som vi hittills samarbetat mest med, har haft en svår uppväxt där hon tvingades prostituera sig redan som 11 åring. För fem år sedan, när hon insåg att hon ville försöka skapa en bättre framtid för sina döttrar, lämnade hon sitt liv på gatan. Trots att hon ständigt arbetar hårt bor familjen fortfarande i ett område där prostitution och droghandel är en del av vardagen. Vi anser att anledningen till att Rocios liv, och så många andra kvinnors liv, har sett ut så här beror på de stora ekonomiska klyftorna som finns i vår värld.

Projektets syfte

är att erbjuda kvinnor som Rocio en möjlighet till att utbilda sig och ha ett arbete där dom blir behandlade som likar, ett arbete som dom kan känna sig stolta över. Detta erbjuder vi henne och hennes familj genom att lägga en betydelsefull del av smycke produktionen i deras händer, men även genom att erbjuda Rocio möjligheten att utbilda sig inom smyckekonst vid en skola i Colombia. Rocíos utbildning betalas av oss. I praktiken innebär det att Rocio får en heltidslön, utbildar sig i tre timmar om dagen och arbetar med smycken de resterande fem timmarna. Målet med utbildningen är att hon ska känna stolthet men även att hon i framtiden ska kunna leda en egen verkstad. En verkstad där de andra anställda har samma möjlighet till att kombinera utbildning och arbete som hon har nu.

Vår vision:

Är att ge kvinnor makt över sitt eget liv genom att ge dem utbildning och arbete. Vi vill helt enkelt erbjuda kvinnorna en möjlighet till att själva förändra sin livssituation.

Andi Gut... at gallery hnoss in Gothenburg.

Andi Gut a jewellery artist from Schweiz, also professor at Pforzheim in Germany.

I was listening at Andi Guts lecture at HDK this Friday and then I went to the opening at gallery Hnoss at Konstepidemin here in Gothenburg.

I can warmly recommend the exhibition!
I like it very much and also the way that Andy Gut is working, the way to jewellery, when I was listing to him at HDK, I got the feel that the way is the goal. He work with the material; nylon, and I have never ever seen it before… But my world is not so big… I really, really like the material, nylon; it has a nice and interesting flexibility.

Andi Gut has also worked with fingernails, eyelashes and teeth, just to see the possibility in organic materials, I like the idea and the things he comes up with, and unfortunate these jewelleries aren’t in this exhibition.

Andi Gut also told us, who was listing to he’s speech at Friday that people often talk about his jewelleries as something coming from “under the water”…
That was a funny view of thinking, I think… Because in my own jewellery world is it like this; if you don’t know what it is, it can always be a brooch!
But if you don’t know what it is and it has an organic shape, then it is from the under water world. Nice thought! May be we all can use this term in everyday life too, when we don’t know some thing or what ever, we can always say; it’s from the under water world!
