Lampa av värmeljushållare, lampa av stickad tröja, smycken "utsmyckning" av plastpåsar, ett bord av vinylskivor m.m.
Kreativt och spännande att kolla på. Mycket att jobba vidare med, vidarutveckla mot något mer hållbart...

She only wanted a boy
Knitted baby-boy of human hair. About the ‘boy-childwish’ of a woman, who during its pregnancy only knitted boys sweaters. She gave birth to girls only. During the pregnancies of her daughters she again knitted piles of boys sweaters. Her daughters as well gave birth to girls only. The wish of having a son never came true for this woman. This work concernes the queste about the ethic values of DNA manipulation. There are clinics working with DNA for the “construction” of babies; the determination of the sex, color of the hair and eyes, the intelect etc. When a childwish is so strong, how do we feel about those issues.

Work

The theme of my work is astonishment about human life.Key point is the life-cycle: from birth and innocence, till development to maturity and guilt. Into my works I emphasize the concepts; influencing and consciousness raising.My work is figurative and recognisable but shape and proportions are not necessarily correct or 'beautiful', what matters is the sensation they evoke. You can always view my work in two ways: kind, pleasant and innocent, or frightening, condemning and guilty.

The reason I work with human hair is that hair has symbolic significance: beauty, strength, health, attraction, etc. The moment it is separated from the human all these factors turn around, hair is considered dirty, unsavoury and dead.Hair is also an important indicator of our life, as well in the past as in the present.- Hair shows us when we reach maturity (pubic-, chest- and armpit hair) and also shows us when we reach the menopause (we become grey and bold). It shows our age and health.- With our hair/hairstyle we emphasize our identity.- Hair has always been a hot item at spiritual/religious- and at social issues. For example: in fairytales and legends, in women's oppression, in the persecution of the Jews, as acts of protest against the prevailing standards and nowadays in the dilemma of the headscarf related to moslim-fear.

It’s a little bite scary and awful at the same time that it’s fascinated… I really like the idea to put a material into another context.

Ann-Louise Gustavsson, Ingela Johansson & Eva Zethraeus har julmarknad i helgen,

i deras verkstad/verkstäder på Chokladfabriken, Paternostergatan 6 i Majorna.

Såååååååååå himla fina och intressanta föremål, både bruksföremål och konst.

Konsthantverk när det är bra... att både träffa konsthantverkarna bakom objekten, alstren och att se ett urval av deras saker, snicksnacka och undra är ju en bonus och lyx, tycker jag... inte alltid man har tillgång till idéer bakom, vad som komma skall osv.

Jag har varit lite tveksam till just keramik innan, men jag måste säga att jag helt och fullt måste börja tänka om... För huga ligen vad det görs en massa bra keramik!

Känns som om begränsningen för vad som är "intressant"keramik, klart och tydligt legat i mitt huvud...

När jag ser dessa tjejers arbeten och oxå andra keramikers arbeten, så blir jag grymt imponerad av att det inte verkar finnas några begränsningar i materialet... Hm?! Det kanske finns vissa gränser i materialet... det måste brännas till exempel, men användningsområdet ökar och gör det så himla intressant och kul.

Gjorde några fynd och kommer med all sannolikhet att dra upp till dom igen och kolla in och ev. köpa/byta grejor...

About Nek Chand

One day 36 years ago, Nek Chand, a humble transport official in the north Indian city of Chandigarh, began to clear a little patch of jungle to make himself a small garden area. He set stones around the little clearing and before long had sculpted a few figures recycled from materials he found at hand. Gradually Nek Chand's creation developed and grew; before long it covered several acres and comprised of hundreds of sculptures set in a series of interlinking courtyards.

After his normal working day Chand worked at night, in total secrecy for fear of being discovered by the authorities.When they did discover Chand's garden, local government officials were thrown into turmoil. The creation was completely illegal - a development in a forbidden area which by rights should be demolished. The outcome, however, was the enlightened decision to give Nek Chand a salary so that he could concentrate full-time on his work, plus a workforce of fifty labourers. Nek Chand's great work received immediate recognition and was inaugurated as The Rock Garden of Chandigarh.

Now over twenty five acres of several thousand sculptures set in large mosaic courtyards linked by walled paths and deep gorges, Nek Chand's creation also combines huge buildings with a series of interlinking waterfalls. The Rock Garden is now acknowledged as one of the modern wonders of the world. Over 5000 visitors each day, some 12 million people so far, walk around this vast creation - the greatest artistic achievement seen in India since the Taj Mahal.

Nek Chand has offered accomodation within the Rock Garden for groups of students or volunteers who like to spend 4 weeks at the Rock Garden. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time living and working in the heart of this incredible visionary environment. We need groups of 4-6 people willing to be in Chandigarh at the same time.
